- DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and the Board of Commissioners are hosting the 2023 DeKalb Virtual Career Academy (DVCA) this summer. This will be the county’s seventh annual summer jobs training program. The program is conducted by WorkSource DeKalb.
The application process is open from April 5 - April 11 and is a five-week program, which runs from June 5 through July 7. (Decaturish.com) - According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, Kali Smith, 42, has been arrested in connection to Torey Shepard's shooting death. Shepard was 21 years old at the time of his death. The shooting took place on March 29 on Kelly Street in Lithonia. Investigators stated that the shooting took place after Shepard and Smith got into an argument. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Dr. Devon Horton has been named as the sole finalist to be DeKalb County's superintendent. He is scheduled to begin his new role after June 30. Horton is currently the superintendent of the Evanston/Skokie School District 65. The board must wait 14 days to approve Horton’s contract. (Decaturish.com)
