  1. CSD is urging the senate to pass the homestead bill. If officials pass the bill it will be on the ballot in November. The bill has yet to be placed on the local calendar however, Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett said there is “tremendous support.” The last day of the session is on March 29. (Decaturish.com )
  2. Food insecurity continues to be an issue in South DeKalb and county-wide. In 2021, Urban Land Institute Atlanta and Decide DeKalb conducted a study that tracked food deserts in southeast DeKalb County. The agencies developed recommendations for improved access to quality food and a list of potential grocery store locations that would help ease food access.   3. There has been a major break in a Decatur murder case from 2022. 19- year-old, Chris L. Jackson, of Atlanta, is now in police custody. He was arrested on Fairburn Road in Atlanta. According to reports by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson made an attempt to flee the scene but was apprehended by a K9 officer. After his arrest, he was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for injuries that occurred as he was attempting to escape. (The Georgia Sun)
