Here are the top stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. The fourth annual Frühlingsfest is being hosted by the city of Avondale Estates and the Avondale Estates Downtown Development Authority. The Frühlingsfest is a German-style arts festival and is scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 18 from noon to -8:00 p.m. in the Avondale Estates rail arts district. There will be over 80 local artists, live music, authentic German food, and drinks. (Decaturish.com )
  2. Rob Cleveland and his wife have been raising chickens for the past twenty years. They now have eight in their backyard in their Decatur home. Karen Hirsh, with a nonprofit called The Humane League, says that more people living in the metro areas are opting for this lifestyle, especially with the recent peak in the price of eggs. If you're looking to join in on the trend, be aware of the only downside, according to Mr. Cleveleand, who says you'd only need to worry about fending off predators. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. On March 14 The City Schools of Decatur School Board held its regular meeting. In the meeting, the school board discussed its strategic plan, All in Decatur. The duration of the plan is for the next five years and is intended to be used as a guide to bring forth the best efforts from the districts, students, educators, and community members. The plan also provides ways CSD can better approach and resolve disparities and injustices. According to Superintendent Maggie Fehrman, "this plan will ensure CSD can equitably and effectively meet the needs of all of our students.” (Decaturish.com )
