  2. A Decatur City Commissioner recently walked out of a joint work session with the school board and city commission, stating the session was becoming "performative." Commissioner Lesa Mayer said the boards need to have "the tough conversations" such as the lack of facilities available to students to compete with other school districts. “I’ve never been in a meeting with the city commission and the school board members ever, and I don’t think the conversation we are having today best serves our community," said Mayer during the meeting.
