Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- Avyana Mitchell, 14, was with her father, at his girlfriend’s mother’s house on Rollingwood Lane on March 28 when she went missing. According to statements, she wandered off without her phone and without telling anyone. She has been missing for approximately a week and her family has been handing out flyers in hopes that they will lead to her safe return. (WSB Atlanta)
- Georgia physicians are said to be appalled at Senate Bill 140. The bill goes into effect on July 1 and bans hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery for minors. Physicians feel that politicians are promoting an agenda that disregards medical standards. The bill is part of Republican-led state legislatures that restricts gender transition in young people and in some cases that involve adults. (Atlanta Magazine)
- A stray chihuahua was captured near Constitution Road in Decatur on Sunday. The animal later tested positive for rabies and has since died. Reports state that the virus is present all year round and that it's not an unusual occurrence. DeKalb residents are urging residents to get their pets vaccinated. (WSB Atlanta)
- 1-800-TruckWreck and Atlanta KISS 104.1 FM have once again teamed up to provide meals for families in the Atlanta area this Easter holiday. Due to inflation, many families are feeling a financial burden. This event is intended to lighten the load of those undergoing this hardship. The event will take place on April 6 from 6-10 a.m., or while supplies last. The location of the event is the Honey Baked Ham on 3990 Covington Highway in Decatur. The giveaway is open to the public. It does not require registration. The first 500 families to arrive will receive $100 Honey Baked Ham gift cards. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
