ATLANTA -- The 9-year-old girl who was struck by a car while playing in her front yard appeared on NBC Nightly News Thursday night, telling everyone that her "goal is to get better with the help from everybody in the world." LaDerihanna Holmes gave the interview from her pink wheelchair at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta of Scottish Rite, saying "We do thank God a lot for miracles that happen.”
On Friday, April 5, Holmes suffered a fractured skull, broken pelvis and several other internal injuries. Holmes was struck by a 2017 Ford Fusion that sped into her front yard. Video of the incident went viral and attracted national attention.
Earlier this week, Gabriel Fordham, 28, surrendered to police. Fordham's attorney said his client was being carjacked during the incident, and the crash resulted from a struggle with the alleged carjacker.
