🌱 Gov. Kemp's $225 Million Grants +New Physician Assistant Program ​

Here are the top stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. A new physician assistant program is in the development process at Agnes Scott College. The program is scheduled to begin in 2025, once accreditation is finalized. LeAnne Martinelli will lead the program, which hopes to fulfill the need for professionals within the healthcare field. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  2. Thompson Mill water main replacement project will begin on Monday, June 12. The county hopes this project will improve the watershed system. 10,760 linear feet of aging pipelines will be replaced. Repairs are projected to be completed within six months, approximately.

  3. Gov. Brian Kemp announced the grant awards for 142 projects. The grants will go towards improving neighborhood parks, recreation facilities, walkways, and the ability to access healthy food, regardless of the neighborhood. The grant awards are estimated at $225 million. DeKalb County, Avondale Estates, Decatur, and residents, will benefit from these awards. (Decaturish.com )
  4. Dele Lowman-Smith is stepping down as board chair. Lowman-Smith served two consecutive years in this role. The DeKalb County Democratic Committee made the announcement on June 2. According to the announcement Lowman-Smith decided to pursue other possibilities. (Champion)
  5. Decatur will give way for food carts, thanks to the new mobile food vendor program. The was a similar program in 2019 in which certain businesses that were deemed as competition to restaurants already in operation. (Planetizen)
