- The grand opening for the Dope Coffee Cafe will be held on Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The grand opening will feature a variety of events, such as free coffee tasting, live music, and giveaways. The cafe's founder and CEO, Michael Loyd, stated that the cafe is an experience with a "tantalizing vibe of coffee and hip-hop, used to bridge the gap between generations." The cafe is located on Snapfinger Woods Drive in Decatur. It is 6,000 square feet and includes the company's manufacturing and warehouse operations, multimedia offices, and a community event space. - Gov. Brian Kemp recently appointed Judge Quintess Gilbert to the Board of Juvenile Justice. Judge Gilbert was sworn in on Jan. 26 and will serve as the 8th Congressional District Representative. She is appointed to serve a five-year term. The role of the Board of Juvenile Justice is to provide leadership within programs aimed to help rehabilitate youth who are in state custody. The role is also responsible for supporting and guiding the commissioner. Prior to her new appointed position, Judge Gilbert was elected district representative to the Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges and served as a juvenile court judge within the Macon Judicial Circuit for 24 years. - Who has caused the Agnes Scott's Library to close its doors since Monday? An owl, that's who. Elizabeth Bagley, director of Library Services, stated that the unwanted library guest entered through the chimney, even though the fireplace was heated. A student noticed the barrel owl while sitting in the Main Reading Room on Monday afternoon. The building remains closed as staff attempt to encourage the owl to exit. (Decaturish.com)
- At its meeting on Feb. 6, Decatur City Commission came to an agreement with Blue Line Solutions that will allow the installation of traffic cameras in some of the city's school zones. Police Chief Scott Richards stated that the goal of the school zone speed enforcement program is designed to increase roadway safety in designated school zones within Decatur. (Decaturish.com)
