The city needs your vote to win Atlanta Magazine's prestigious award.

The City of Decatur is in the running for an Atlanta Magazine award that recognizes communities, organizations, and individuals that strive to make the city a better place to live, work, and play.
Decatur is one of 11 finalists for the 2015 Groundbreaker of the Year award, whose theme this year is “Building (and Rebuilding) a Better Place to Live.” Other finalists for this year’s award include the Avalon development in Alpharetta, Clark Howard and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, MARTA CEO Keith Parker, and WonderRoot.
Finalists were chosen for their work in development, preservation, public art, environmental stewardship, and other factors which helped revitalize the city with new structures or rehabilitating older facilities.

Decatur won high praise for its efforts at going green, with five buildings earning LEED certifications, underground cisterns, hiring a full-time arborist, and a pay-as-you-throw sanitation program, the magazine says. The city’s Better Together initiative is helping citizens and officials take a look inside the city to discover ways the area’s diverse populations can work together to solve common issues and foster harmony between one another.
