ICYMI: What's Open, Closed in Decatur on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is on Monday, Jan. 19. In observance of the holiday, Decatur government offices will be closed.

All trash and recycling collection will take place one day later. If you are scheduled for collection on Monday, it will take place Tuesday, Jan. 20, and if you are scheduled for Tuesday, collection will take place on Wednesday.

All Decatur City Schools and DeKalb County Public Library branches are also closed on Monday.

The MARTA bus and rail lines will operate on a Saturday schedule, but bus routes that do not normally operate on Saturdays will run on Monday. All other bus routes will operate on a regular Saturday schedule. Rail service begins at about 5 a.m. Monday and runs every 20 minutes until 2 a.m.

The City of Decatur will also have its annual Decatur Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project. Volunteers can sign up for home repairs and yard work for the city’s senior citizens.

Days and shifts for volunteering are:

  • Saturday, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Jan. 18 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
