  1. Robin Dease, the first African American woman to become a bishop to the United Methodists in North Georgia took office on Sunday. The ceremony was bought to life with music, prayer, and scripture. The location was at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur. The bishop will preside over 320,000 members and 700 churches. 2. A Chick-fil-A within DeKalb County has been approved to move forward with modifications that will give them access to build on property they don't own. Though there was much public debate, the Chick-fil-A property owner was granted a modification of the Special Land Use Permit for the Chik-fil-A at 4435 Hugh Howell Road and 2239 Dillard St. This was needed because the property that the owner wants to build on isn't owned by the restaurant. With the modifications now approved, the installation of a drive-thru at this particular location will be built. (Decaturish.com)
  3. DeKalb County will host its 39th-year annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The program is titled, "Cultivating a Beloved Community." DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond noted that this marks the 39th consecutive year DeKalb has honored the late civil rights leader in such a way, making it "the longest-running county-sponsored program" to honor Dr. King, his life, and his legacy. The celebration will be held on this Friday, Jan. 13 at 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. JFly of How Big Is Your Dream will perform. In honor of their commitment to their devotion to positive change and the betterment of the community, Thomas L. Coleman, from the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, and Santiago Marquez, CEO of the Latin American Association, will be honored with the Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award.
