Local Student Wins Prestigious Film School Competition
Imani Andwele, a senior at DeKalb School of the Arts, won first place at the Berry College Viking Fusion High School Film Festival.
AVONDALE ESTATES, GA -- A DeKalb County high school senior won first place at the recent Berry College Viking Fusion High School Film Festival. Imani Andwele, a senior at the DeKalb School of the Arts in Avondale Estates, was the winner with her short film “The Fear of Being Alone.”
Andwele plans to attend college in New York to pursue a degree in film and photography.
Viking Fusion is Berry’s student-run multimedia website and hosted its first film festival on April 12, in honor of the new filmmaking and cinematic arts major beginning this fall in the Department of Communication. High school students from four different counties in north Georgia submitted short films that they wrote and filmed in hopes of winning a $100 prize. Students from four counties submitted films.

“Viking Fusion is so happy to have been able to do our part in supporting high school film programs, and we hope the film festival will continue to grow in years to come,” said senior visual communication major and Viking Fusion executive director Bruno Rosa.
