Decatur artist, Lori Lejeune, will be in a group show of nine artists at PB&J Gallery from Saturday, Oct. 19 through Saturday, Nov. 23 (Thurs-Sat, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.).
Lejeune explores the intersection of art and technology using unique techniques to create her photographic and mixed media artwork. Inviting color, chess references and a narrative quality are hallmarks of much of her work.
The first lamppost in her featured series, the lamppost in snow, was inspired in part by the children's book, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where a lamppost marked the entrance to a magical world. Each piece in the lamppost series is hopeful, depicting man-made technology co-existing within the natural world.
Lejeune's photographic images are almost entirely an invention and her process can be thought of as a combination of sculpture and photography. In a time-consuming process, she sculpts three-dimensional worlds, scenes and figures within the computer in a process more commonly used to create 3D animated films. Once created, this virtual world can be photographed from any angle, just as in life. She then "photographs" the virtual space in a rendering process, producing work that compellingly hovers between reality and fiction.
