🌱 Man Arrested For Choking & Arson + Avondale Purchases Police Cars

Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- Decatur police announced that on Jul. 20, they had arrested a man who choked his girlfriend and set their hotel room on fire. The 30-year-old man allegedly set fire to a hotel room on the 900 block of Church Street. Police have not released the name of the suspect. He is facing charges of aggravated assault, first-degree arson, third-degree cruelty to children, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. (Decaturish.com)
- At its Jul. 27 meeting, the Avondale City Commission approved the purchase of nine police vehicles, including three electric vehicles. The police department currently has 15 marked patrol vehicles and one vehicle that is unmarked. Early in the year, the city requested six 2022 Ford Utility Police Interceptor vehicles as patrol cars, and three Ford Mustang Mach-E’s for administrative use. (Decaturish.com)
- Decatur Active Living is introducing the "HAPPiFEET Decatur" app, which is now available for download at the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. "HAPPiFEET Decatur" is Decatur Parks and Recreation's newest app to help users share comments and concerns about the community's parks and facilities.
