Man Who Shot Girlfriend In Head Sentenced In DeKalb

Dominique Richardson was convicted recently of fatally shooting his girlfriend, 22-year-old Taylor Holcombe.

DECATUR, GA -- An Atlanta-area woman's new relationship, just days old and already filled with jealousy and angry fits, turned out to be a deadly one, DeKalb County prosecutors said recently. In the sentencing of Dominique Richardson, convicted of fatally shooting 22-year-old Taylor Holcombe, prosecutors said rage not romance caused him to open fire on his girlfriend and leave her dying in the street.

Richardson, 27, was sentenced to life without parole plus five years in the brazen October 2015 shooting, which stunned DeKalb residents.

The shooting occurred at the corner of Glenwood Road and Meadow Lane after a dispute between the couple.

Prosecutors said Holcombe was behind the wheel when Richardson flew into a rage and abruptly pulled out a handgun. Terrified for her life, Holcombe jumped out of the moving car and into a traffic. The vehicle hit a pole and came to a stop, allowing Richardson to exit the car, run up to his fleeing girlfriend and shoot her in the back of the head.

β€œThe victim collapsed in the roadway," DeKalb District Attorney's Office said in a news release.

Holcombe was then struck by another vehicle while Richardson fled the scene. Authorities originally investigated her death as a hit-and-run until evidence showed otherwise.

Richardson was captured days later at an apartment complex just off Kensington Road.

He was convicted of multiple charges, including murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm.
