Why Metro Atlanta Police Departments Are Taking Selfies

DECATUR, GA -- A number of metro Atlanta police departments are taking community policing to new heights, or in this case, sights. Police forces across the metro area are involved in a selfie challenge -- and it's pretty awesome.

Dubbed the "LE Selfie Challenge" (the LE is short for Law Enforcement) this good-natured competition was started by the Norcross Police Department as a way to show the community that police work is not all about the crime and tragedy you see oftentimes in the head lines. In a sign of the good will it has fostered in the area, LESelfie Challenge has caught on with the Dunwoody and Decatur police forces as well.

Random photos of local officers have shown them making funny faces in their patrol car or even enjoying a day out of uniform in the city. The Norcross force has accepting the challenge, by the way, posting the following message recently on Facebook:

"We are taking our Selfie Challenge to a new level! Thank you, Dunwoody Police Department for promoting our challenge by asking neighboring law enforcement agencies to join us! In case you have missed it, scroll down and check out our selfies. Please comment, like and share! #LESelfieChallenge #NPDSelfieChallenge."

The selfie challenge also serves as a way to humanize the police department and share something about the officer that the community didn't know. You can follow Norcross PD's photos at #NPDSelfieChallenge on social media.

One thing the selfie challenge has proven pretty clearly, is that metro Atlanta has some of the coolest officers in the United States.
