  1. Today, Aug. 10, the Avondale Estates City Commission will meet to discuss hiring a firm to conduct a finance director search. The commission will consider a contract with Mercer Group Associates, for an amount not to exceed $21,500, to conduct the search for the next director of finance and administrative services for the city. The City Commission meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held virtually via Zoom and at the Avondale Estates City Hall, located at 21 N. Avondale Plaza. (Decaturish.com)
  2. Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, the Museum School of Avondale Estates will no longer offer enrollment preference to Avondale Estates students. The change, which is part of the school's new charter agreement with Dekalb County Schools, won’t affect current students, according to Museum School Executive Director Katherine Kelbaugh. The school is located at the old Forrest Hills Elementary building located on Forrest Boulevard in greater Decatur. (Decaturish.com)
  3. On Aug. 20, Georgia State’s Perimeter College Native Plant Botanical Garden will be the site of the Great Georgia Pollinator Census. According to garden director Jewels Morgan, volunteers of all ages are needed to help count the number of pollinators on plants in the garden. They will be given identifier cards to help identify the different types of species that alight on the flowers and plants. The Census will take place on Aug. 20 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
