- Diversity, equity, and inclusion, words that for many have brought a sense of purpose to the educational system, are now facing removal from the 2023 educator program prep standards. The NAACP DeKalb County branch has stepped in announcing opposition to this proposal from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. NAACP DeKalb President Lance Hammonds stated that this would be a step back. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission is the certifying board for teachers, admin, and counselors in Georgia. - School is out but the DeKalb County School District is looking ahead towards the 2023-2024 school year. The district is hosting a job fair on Thursday, June 1 at Columbia Middle School, 3001 Columbia Drive in Decatur. The hiring event starts at 9 a.m. and will conclude at noon. Positions to be filled range from teaching to coaching, administrative assistants, and more. (Decaturish.com)
- Summer fun is soon to begin at some of our local organizations. Decatur Legacy Park, Cochran Building located at 500 S Columbia Drive in Decatur will have both indoor and outdoor activities. These programs will take place from June 12 to July 7. Avondale Estates LSC Gymnastics and Tumbling will also have camps this summer at 127 Center St. in Avondale Estates. Their programs, Safari and Under the Sea Camp will take place June 5-9. (Champion)
- Erica Campbell, from the gospel music sensation Mary Mary, is going on tour. She will be in Decatur towards the end of her tour, first, stopping in Charlotte, North Carolina; Greensboro North Carolina; and others. The tour consists of visits to major mega-churches. The announcement was made on Facebook and tickets are on sale now. (Black America We)
- Firefighters were called to the Villas at Decatur Apartments to put out a fire on Tuesday night. Reports state that a total of six firetrucks were on the scene battling flames and heavy smoke that came from the building. The fire is still under investigation and it's unsure if anyone was injured during the fire. (11Alive.com WXIA)

- Wellroot has programs that are designed to make a positive impact on children and families. They have connected many children with loving homes throughout our communities.
