Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:

  1. A bill known as the Network Adequacy is gaining momentum as Georgians bring more awareness to mental health issues and the proposed lack of accountability of insurers here in Georgia. The Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission issued recommendations calling for strengthened standards for network adequacy. Advocates are promoting the idea that state lawmakers need to hold insurers accountable for its said lack of behavioral health services. In 2022 a bill sponsored by the late House Speaker David Ralston, who passed unexpectedly in November of last year, is receiving much credit for the continued awareness concerning this issue. 2. A bit of a healthy college football rivalry between Decatur's Mayor Patti Garrett and Mayor Pro Tem Tony Powers was in play during The Decatur City Commission's retreat.
The University of Georgia played against Texas Christian University last night. Mayor Patti Garrett is a TCU alumna and Mayor Pro Tem Tony Powers is a UGA alumnus. Garrett was quoted that he predicted the "frogs" were going to pull a major upset, being the underdogs all year long and no one thought they would make it as far as they did.
