North DeKalb Mall Acquired, Paving Way For Redevelopment Again

EDENS, the real-estate developer behind the Toco Hills Shopping Center, bought the mall property "in recent days," according to reports.

Costco could still be in the mix for the mall's redevelopment, saying they "remain interested" but do not have a deal set in stone, according to Tomorrow's News Today Atlanta (ToNeTo ATL).

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — North DeKalb Mall has new owners once again who are looking to redevelop the property, and Costco "remains interested" in joining the mix of tenants for the project.

Decaturish first reported the news Monday that an employee of real-estate developer EDENS — the same developer behind the Toco Hills Shopping Center and Toco Hills Promenade— confirmed the sale.

North DeKalb Mall, first built in 1965, has had several owners over the past two decades, including Hendon Properties, Lennar Commercial Investors LLC and Sterling Organization, Tomorrow's News Today ATL (ToNeTo ATL) reported. It's not clear what EDENS paid for the property.

Costco was slated to come to the property, and it could still be in the mix, ToNeTo ATL first reported. Costco's longtime CFO Richard Galanti told the news outlet in an email that the grocer "remains interested" in being one of the tenants, but they do not have a deal.

Costco was once supposed to anchor the development in 2018, but that fell through. Many of the mall's other tenants have already left.
