Pine Lake Officer Shoots, Kills Suspected Liquor Store Robber

The shooting happened on New Year's Eve in Stone Mountain.

DECATUR, GA -- An off-duty Pine Lake police officer shot and killed a suspect in an alleged liquor store robbery late on New Year's Eve. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over thee case, an unidentified man entered the store at 5345 Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain with a firearm around 11 pm Monday night.

The subject fired a shot and told employees and several customers in the store to get on the floor. The officer was working security inside the store and immediately fired at the subject. The subject fled, but collapsed in front of the store. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect's name has not been released. No officers were injured.
