Pre-K Week Showcases Early Education Programs to Local Leaders
Leaders from the Junior League of DeKalb visited a Douglasville learning center to interact with students and observe the curriculum.

Earlier this month, the Junior League of DeKalbβs President Angela Turk and President-Elect Mindy Kaplan got a first hand look at todayβs pre-kindergarten education when they stopped by The Sunshine House Early Learning Center in Douglasville to meet with the young students.
Turk and Kaplan took the time to read two of the childrenβs favorite Pete the Cat books, a popular series from Georgia childrenβs author Eric Litwin and Alabama-born artist James Dean.
βIt was a privilege to visit the Sunshine House and experience the childrenβs enthusiasm for learning,β Turk said in a recent press release. βSeeing firsthand the tremendous difference Pre-K makes can create vocal advocates for early childhood education, which builds life-long benefits for our children and our community.β

Their visit was a part of the Georgia Pre-K Week, a state-wide program hosted by Voices for Georgiaβs Children that brings area leaders to pre-kindergarten classrooms to observe the importance of education in a young studentβs intellectual development.
In its fourth year of implementation, Pre-K Week pairs area leaders with classrooms across all of Georgiaβs 159 counties, reminding legislators of the value of quality pre-elementary education. This yearβs program lasted from Oct. 6 through Oct. 10 and was supported by Georgia Power, Synovus, and Scholastic Corporation.
