- City officials have announced a new 90-day shuttle program that will run from Decatur to the Publix at Sam’s Crossing Village. The city of Decatur is starting the program due to the recent closing of Kroger on Commerce Drive. With that closed, there wasn't a supermarket within reasonable walking distance for residents in that neighborhood. Seniors and others now have the option of taking a shuttle to shop. Shirley Baylis, business development manager for the city, said there are high hopes for this initiative that will provide critical transportation for shoppers using electric vehicles that reinforce the community’s commitment to protecting the environment. - Born Jan. 10, 1923, Idell Turner, has lived in Decatur for 40 years. She is the wife of a World War II veteran. She gave birth to five children and has 18 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. It's said that she is the oldest member of her church, and she loves to cook and entertain her family and community. She is heralded as a woman with courage, honor, and valor. - The Ebenezer Baptist Church held its 54th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Commemorative Service yesterday. Guests reminisced on Dr. King's legacy from the church where the civil rights icon once pastored. The church also hosted President Joe Biden during another MLK service on Sunday. Biden spoke of Dr. King as one of his few "political heroes" stating that his life and legacy "show us the way and we should pay attention." (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Dope Coffee Company located in Decatur is scheduled to open on Feb. 18. The company's mission is to connect coffee, culture, and hip-hop all in one shared space. During its grand opening on the 18th, the coffee company plans to serve free coffee, and have live demonstrations and music performances. (Patch)
- Georgia State Police have reported that a 1 year old and 2 year old were amongst the five people who were injured in a deadly crash on Saturday afternoon when a Toyota Corolla veered off the road and collided with a truck. The driver of the Corolla and his 18-year-old passenger have been pronounced dead. The accident took place at the intersection of Hannatown and Jep Martin Roads. (WCTV)
