  1. During the past 10 years, there have been dozens of vehicle crashes at the intersection of North Decatur Road and North Superior Avenue in Decatur. As a result, the city of Decatur released its plans to add safety improvements to that area, and possibly others nearby. DeKalb County, alongside Decatur, plans to host another meeting within the next couple of months. This meeting will be open to the public.   2. Local church organizations have come together to distribute 5,000 boxes of fruits, vegetables, eggs, chicken, and other foods and beverages. Ninety-nine percent of the food is grown in Georgia. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 24 at 9 a.m. at Shy Temple CME Church, 2030 Wesley Chapel Road, and the Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Big Miller Grove Way, both in Decatur.   3. There have been an escalated number of shootings within 10 major cities across the U.S., reported by the Associated Press. According to the Gun Violence Archive, even smaller towns such as Decatur and Greenville have encountered such shootings. This has prompted Mark Barden, co-founder and CEO of the Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund, to address the shootings. Barden is also the father of Daniel, who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. In his statement he mentioned The Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund, drawing attention to the importance of protecting the youth. (HamletHub)

  • A huge "thank you" went out to the United Methodist Connectional Federal Credit Union. The credit union was credited with bringing families together for the Wellroot annual FamFest event that took place at Six Flags Over Georgia & Hurricane Harbor. (Wellroot Family Services via Facebook)
  • The City Schools of Decatur has teamed up with other local organizations in its Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training series.
