- Six graduates from the Reinhardt University Public Safety Institute earned their Basic Law Enforcement Training certifications. The graduation was held on May 23. Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds delivered special remarks. Of the six graduates, five of them have already secured jobs within law enforcement. An award for the best shooting average was given to one of the graduates. Others participated in the ceremony as well. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- A long-standing tradition was up for debate at the Avondale Estates City Commission meeting. The meeting took place on May 24 and many residents spoke out against the street paintings that occur during the annual Fourth of July celebration. In the past the street paintings were more simple and temporary designs. Recently, they have become more difficult to remove from the streets. The city council is split evenly regarding this issue. Commissioner Lionel Laratte is in favor of it. (Decaturish.com)
- CEO Michael Thurmond and the Director of Community Development Allen Mitchell have made a step in the right direction when it comes to attempting to rebuild DeKalb County, and sometimes you must destroy before you can build. That is exactly what took place yesterday at 1126 Pluma Drive in Atlanta. Pluma Drive was the second of two properties that were scheduled to be destroyed, after being considered to be in poor condition or as blight. The first property set for demolition was located at 3659 Radcliffe Blvd. in Decatur. That demolition took place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. (Patch)

- A huge congratulations to all of the DHS seniors! Their graduation took place yesterday, May 25 at 7 p.m. A livestream of the joyous event was also an option for those who couldn't attend in person. (City Schools of Decatur via Facebook)
- The yummy to your tummy strawberry rhubarb galettes are now out at Avondale Estates Farmers Market, for those who love and eat strawberries.
