Qualifying Closes For Decatur Elections: See Who's On The Ballot
Only two of the five seats up for election in November will be contested. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 4.

DECATUR, GA — The candidates for Decatur City Commission and City Schools of Decatur Board of Education are now locked in for this year's general elections, set for Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Qualifying for the election ended Thursday. Most of the candidates are running unopposed, with contested races in just one city commission seat and one school board seat.

City Commission District 1, Post A

City commissioners and Board of Education members are elected by receiving a plurality of the votes cast in the election district in which they are qualified. These races are non-partisan elections.
To qualify as a candidate the following requirements must be met, according to the city of Decatur:
- Has resided in the city not less than one year immediately preceding their election.
- Is a qualified voter in municipal elections for officers of the city.
- Has not been convicted and sentenced for any violation of the criminal laws of Georgia involving moral turpitude, unless such person has received a full pardon or has all rights of citizenship restored.
All city commissioners have to live in the city and within their election district, if any, during their terms of office.
The last day for Decatur citizens to register to vote in the upcoming General Election is Monday, Oct. 4. Early voting begins on Tuesday, Oct. 12, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 2.
