- Members of DeKalb County’s Democratic Legislative delegation seek to remove Stone Mountain’s designation as a Confederate Memorial and remove the word ‘Memorial’ from the title of the park's official designation. State representatives recently introduced House Bill 794. With the passing of this bill, their hopes to eliminate the giant Confederate carving at the park, and its history will be accomplished. House bill 794 has been co-sponsored by every member of the DeKalb delegation, who have expressed their frustrations towards the Stone Mountain Memorial Association for not acting in a more prompt manner in response to the situation.
(Decaturish.com) - Warming centers at Fire Station 3, 100 N. Clarendon Ave. in Avondale Estates was opened for residents to use on Friday last night. - Road closures and detour signs are scheduled to go up for Wednesday on Vista Brook Drive, between McLendon Drive and Vista Way, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Large crane removal of a tree at 3123 Vista Brook Drive is needed, prompting this road closure. (Press Release Desk)
- The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs is scheduled to host Easter Egg Hunt events at various recreation centers. The events are free and include face painting, games, and giveaways. The event scheduled for April 1 will be at the Midway Recreation Center, 3118 Midway Road in Decatur at 2-5 p.m. (Press Release Desk)
- Molly Pitra, a junior from St. Pius X Catholic High School in DeKalb County, won first prize in the 2023 Poetry Out Loud state championship. The Alliance Theatre announced she will go on to represent Georgia at the national finals May 8-10 in Washington, D.C. “Poetry Out Loud encourages students to explore different perspectives and nurture a sense of empathy,” said Tina Lilly, executive director of Georgia Council for the Arts. In total there were 15 students who made it to the state finals and competed at the Woodruff Arts Center’s Rich Theatre in Atlanta on March 14. (Decaturish.com)

- In honor of Women's History Month, Mrs. Hambie is being celebrated. Mrs. Hambie was a Black scientist, research microbiologist, educator, and agent of change. She was a member of the Decatur Board of Education from 1976-1998. Mrs. Hambie also served as board chair. In 2006, the City of Decatur Board of Education named the new Decatur City Schools professional learning Center after her. (City Schools of Decatur via Facebook)
- The City of Decatur will host an event on Saturday. The city's budget will be a topic of discussion "Saturday to learn about the City's budget and see some really cool vehicles." (City of Decatur GA- Government via Facebook)
- Supporters of the Wellroot Family Services are asked to head on over to their Facebook page to like their posts dedicated to increasing awareness regarding tax issues.
