Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- An ongoing issue at the Villas at Decatur still has resident Shuntaye Cooley at a disadvantage when it comes to obtaining mail from her mailbox. It's now been months that she and her neighbors have been dealing with a lack of mail distribution and now they are being told they need to pay off a $400 balance and renewal fee in order to receive their mailbox keys for the United States Postal Service's newly approved mailboxes. - Decatur High Schools boys and girls basketball teams were two of the 11 DeKalb County teams to advance to the second round of the Georgia High School Association's state playoffs. Today the teams have another opportunity to continue their winning streak beginning with a game played at 7:30 p.m. at Dutchtown. (Champion)
- A celebration of life service for the late Pastor Bishop James H. Morton, Sr. will commence today at 10 a.m. at the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church, located in Decatur. Yesterday, Morton's family and the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church held a public viewing honoring Morton. Morton began his ministry in 1968 and preached his first sermon at the Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1994 he began as pastor of the New Beginning congregation in Decatur. Many celebrity singers will be out to honor Morton, including, Marvin Winans, William Murphy III, and Byron Cage. The public is welcomed to attend to pay their respects. (atlantadailyworld)
- A milky street was the scene, as a portion of South Fork Peachtree Creek was covered with the dairy product. Social media posts poured in from residents who sent in photos of the scene on Feb. 23. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division is investigating the spill after there was a break in the milk-supply line at a soft-serve ice cream company located on DeKalb Industrial. An employee of the shop was keeping people informed of the matter as well. (Decaturish.com)

- Congratulations to Glennwood Elementary second-grade students. They hosted a beautiful culminating celebration of Black History Month. The students and teachers put on an inspirational, powerful and beautiful tribute honoring and celebrating Black History. (City Schools of Decatur via Facebook)
- The William Gay art exhibition is now open. The Mimi Herman is scheduled to open on Feb. 27. Poets James Davis May and Christina Olson will also have readings March 2. (Georgia Center for the Book at DCPL via Facebook)
- The programs and name tags are now being printed. Mugs are packed and the day of the 2023 Green Team Summit is only a day away! All who are excited about the event can head on over to the website to inquire more. (Georgia Interfaith Power & Light via Facebook)
- The City of Decatur sent out a huge "thank you" to the CSD students, staff, families, and community members who participated in their CSD Black History Month Spirit Week.
