- The second man accused of the shooting death of 30-year-old Erik McKenzie has been arrested. McKenzie was a security guard on duty at the Cosmopolitan Premier Lounge when he was shot and killed last year in October. Dion Watkins, 23, is now in police custody. He is facing malice murder and aggravated assault charges. Quincy Tyler Walker also was arrested in November 2022. He is accused of felony murder in McKenzie's death. Another man was also injured during this shooting. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Residents of the Villas at Decatur say they haven't received any mail since October 2022. One of the residents have stated that medicine, checks, and W2's have yet to be received. This, they say is due to broken mailboxes that management needs to fix. Resident Shuntaye Cooley said she was told she will need to purchase a post office box at a local shopper market in order to receive her mail. Attempts to contact the leasing office at the complex, First Communities, have gone unanswered. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Nakia Dunta Dorsey, 23, of Decatur, has been arrested and charged with malice murder and two counts of aggravated assault. At the time of his arrest, Dorsey was at an apartment complex on Mt Zion Road in Marrow. Reports state that Dorsey shot into a car and killed 17-year-old homecoming queen Jayne Sanchez-Chavez in November 2022. A second individual, Brandon Lee Wilson was also in the car and suffered injuries. At the time he was reported to be in critical condition. 23-year-old Dorsey is being held without bond in the DeKalb County jail. (WSB Atlanta)
- DeKalb County Government and local faith leaders will be distributing 5,000 boxes of food in celebration of Black History Month. The event will take place today Beginning at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Distribution is on a first come, first served basis. The Decatur locations are Beulah Missionary Baptist Church at 2340 Clifton Springs Road, Shy Temple CME Church at 2030 Wesley Chapel Road, and the Covenant Church at 1700 Corey Blvd. (https://patch.com/georgia/deca...)

- The Mead Road Mardi Gras Parade is going on today. This is said to be a fun, community event that raises funds for DEF music and other grants. The parade begins at 1 p.m. at F.AVE and marches through Oakhurst village and then down Mead Road to the Imperial. (The Decatur Education Foundation via Facebook)
