Here are the top stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:

  1. Three road closures are scheduled in DeKalb County for this month. Grist Stone Court, between Durand Mill Drive NE and the cul-de-sac, is one of them. There will be no through traffic during the times from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. A tree at 1814 Grist Stone Court NE, in Atlanta, needs to be removed. Road closures and detour signs will be placed within the designated areas during the road closure. (Decaturish.com)
  2. According to DeKalb County Government officials, "a kickoff event for the 34th annual DeKalb County Senior Olympic Games will take place on May 1 at Exchange Intergenerational Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur." The kickoff is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Reports state that the games will continue from May 1 through May 12. Those residing in DeKalb County and neighboring counties who are 50 years and older may participate. Participants must complete an application to participate in the games and may visit dekalbcountyga.gov/parks and click on “2023 Senior Olympics Registration Pack,” to do so. (Champion)
  3. Ten people have been displaced after their home set fire in DeKalb County. DeKalb Fire officials stated that five adults and five children were inside the home asleep when it occurred. Firefighters responded to the fire on Nancy Lee Way in Decatur. The fire alarm sounded at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Everyone inside was able to evacuate through a window. One person who suffered from back pain has been taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the house is at a total loss. Thankfully, the Red Cross is assisting the residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. (Patch)
  4. Water Wings Swim returns with its swimming lessons program. The program is scheduled to run from the spring and summer months, April through September. It's an outdoor swim lessons company with four locations. Those locations are East Atlanta, Kirkwood, The Beacon at Grant Park, and Ormewood Park. They offer personalized and progressive swimming lessons for beginners and other skill sets. (Decaturish.com)
