Salvation Army Distributing Fans in Heat Wave

The Salvation Army in Decatur will also become a cooling station.

The Salvation Army provided this information to help people deal with the heat wave.

WHAT: The Salvation Army of Metro Atlanta beginning Friday at 12 noon will provide water, and distribute 500 free electric  fans to those in need in the communities of  Metro Atlanta, Gwinnett and Decatur.  Two Cooling stations will also be set up for those that seek temporary relief from scorching temperatures located at The Salvation Army in Gwinnett and The Salvation Army in Decatur from 12 noon to 5pm.

WHY:  Atlanta is expected to have record breaking heat today which poses a health risk to many.  “Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits this afternoon. Our seniors and especially those that don’t have shelter are at extreme risk,” says Metro Area Commander Major Todd Hawks. He continued, “We are also deploying several of our canteens to go into the community to provide water and are opening our doors to those that want a cool place to come in from out of the sun and enjoy a cold glass of water.”  The Salvation Army has long term experience in meeting the basic needs of the people in the community.   “Everybody, young, old, poor, and homeless deserves a cold glass of water; today you can find one at The Salvation Army.” says Major Hawks.
