Soiree to Honor DeKalb Leaders, CEO-elect Michael Thurmond
Event this week includes swearing-in ceremony.
DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County is inviting the public to the “New Day for DeKalb Inaugural Celebration" that is taking place this week.
The events will feature honors for the county's public servants and the swearing-in of CEO-elect Michael Thurmond, who takes the reins after the tumultuous tenure of Burrell Ellis.
“We are honored and thrilled to lead this celebration of our new CEO and the dedicated men and women who serve our county," the event's co-chairs said in a news release.

Thurmond has promised DeKalb residents that the water billing crisis, in which homeowners were charged outrageous amounts in some cases, will be his No. 1 priority.

Thursday, Jan. 12: Reception honoring the CEO-elect, 6-9 p.m. Fernbank Museum
Friday, Jan. 13: Swearing-in ceremony and reception, 4--6:30 p.m., Manuel Maloof Auditorium
Saturday, Jan. 14: Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast, 8-10 a.m., Marriott Courtyard, downtown Decagur
Sunday, Jan. 15: Atonement, Healing & Restoration service, Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church.
