- State Superintendent Richard Woods is urging the DeKalb School board to keep interim superintendent Dr. Vasanne Tinsley instead of hiring finalist Dr. Devon Horton.
Woods sent the school board a letter on April 14. The letter mentions the importance of stability in this critical time in the education system. Woods mentions that there has been recent momentum and doesn't want to lose that either. (Decaturish.com) - Avondale Estates farmers market, Common Roots Farmers Market, at 3409 Covington Highway, is scheduled to open on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 at 9 a.m. The days and hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The market will be closed on Mondays. - The Decatur Downtown Development Authority held its regular meeting on April 14. During the meeting, a pilot program for security and law enforcement services in the city’s downtown business district was approved. In January, the DDA considered working with Matrix Security. Matrix Security is a Black-owned business that currently works with Worthmore Jewelers in Decatur. (Decaturish.com)
- On Friday, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit arrested 20 -year-old Charlie Buckholts of Stone Mountain. Buckholts was at a home in the Indian Forest Trail neighborhood at the time of his arrest. It has been almost one month since he allegedly shot and killed Joshua Walker along the 4300 block of Glenwood Road in Decatur. According to police, this may have been a result of a drug deal that took place between the two men. (11Alive.com WXIA)
