Suspect In Hit And Run That Injured Child Appears In Court
Gabriel Fordham is accused of hitting 9-year-old LaDerihanna Holmes who was playing in the front yard of her Lithonia home.
DECATUR, GA -- Gabriel Jabri Fordham, the man accused of hitting a little girl who was playing in her front yard with his car and then fleeing the scene, appeared in court Monday. Fordham surrendered to police several days after LaDerihanna Holmes' serious injuries made national headlines with a dramatic video of the incident. A DeKalb state court judge ruled there was enough evidence to proceed to a trial, and Fordham was denied bond.
On April 5, Holmes suffered a fractured skull, broken pelvis and several other internal injuries. Holmes was struck by a 2017 Ford Fusion that sped into her front yard. Video of the incident went viral and attracted national attention.
Fordham's attorney said his client was being carjacked during the incident, and the crash resulted from a struggle with the alleged carjacker. Fordham is facing several charges, including hit and run, serious injury by vehicle and reckless driving, among others.
