  1. A group of thieves was caught on camera stealing a small Decatur church's passenger van. According to Rodney Hurst, Senior Pastor at the Cornerstone Church of Deliverance, the church had used the van to pick up elderly and disabled congregants. On Wednesday, DeKalb County police confirmed they would be investigating the case. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. The City of Avondale Estates invites the community to a Capital Projects Open House tomorrow (Tuesday, Aug. 16). From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Avondale Estates City Hall, city staff and representatives from Pond Engineering will be present to review concept designs for Laredo Drive road improvements. Attendees can also learn about additional capital projects, including stormwater infrastructure improvements. (City of Avondale Estates)
  3. Monkeypox and COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Georgia, especially in the Atlanta metro. Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) host Leah Fleming recently spoke with GPB's senior health reporter Ellen Elridge to discuss the state of both viruses in Georgia and Atlanta. According to Elridge, monkeypox cases have been disproportionately affecting men who have sex with men, communities of color, and those in and around the Atlanta area. COVID-19, on the other hand, has had high levels of transmissions across communities and statewide — due in part to variants like BA.5. (Reporter Newspapers)
