Thieves Pilfer Credit Cards From Decatur Offices

Both thefts happened June 13. The credit cards were quickly used to purchase Marta passes.

Credit card thieves apparently struck June 13 at two different Decatur offices.

One woman said she arrived at her office at Synergy Home Health Care at 619 E. College Ave. that morning and placed her purse on a chair.

She went to her car about 10:30 a.m., leaving the purse behind. When she returned the purse was still there. She discovered later the wallet was taken.

After a few hours she received alerts about possible fraud on two credit cards. Each card was used to purchase $96 in Marta passes and $95 in merchandise at a Ross Department Store. Also taken were about $200 in cash, her driver's license and Social Security card, one other credit card and a debit card.

Another woman said she left her handbag in the back room of her office at 125 Clairemont Ave. and heard the front door chime. She went to the front of the office and saw nobody.

About 5:20 p.m. that day she received alerts about purchases with her Visa card and realized the purse was stolen. Police found it in a men's restroom in the building. Taken were three credit cards, a debit card and a driver's license.

She checked her account activities and discovered five MARTA transactions for $96 each on one card and three MARTA transactions for $96 each on another card.
