Slain DeKalb Police Officer Identified As Tributes Pour In

Edgar Isidro Flores, 24, was killed Thursday afternoon during a traffic stop on I-20. His assailant, Brandon Taylor, was also killed.

DECATUR, GA -- The DeKalb County police officer who was shot and killed during a Thursday afternoon traffic stop has been identified. Edgar Isidro Flores, 24, had been with the department since May 2017. Tributes are pouring in after Flores was shot and killed during a traffic stop on near I-20 and Candler Road Thursday afternoon. Flores pulled over a male suspect around 5 pm, according to DeKalb Police Chief James Conroy. The suspect fled on foot, and when the officer pursued, the suspect pulled a gun and shot the officer, Conroy said.

Flores was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died. The suspect, who on Friday was identified as Brandon Taylor, 33, of Decatur, hid behind a nearby business, and police and a K9 officer pursued him. Police said Taylor shot the police dog, now identified as Indi, before being shot several times by police. Taylor was pronounced dead at Grady, and Indi, who is seven years old and has five years of service as a K9, was taken to a local veterinary hospital. He is now reported to be in stable condition.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case, as is standard in all officer-involved shootings in Georgia.
