Upper Room Moving To Taiyo Ramen In Decatur

Filipino pop-up Upper Room will move to Taiyo Ramen in downtown Decatur.

DECATUR, GA -- A popular Filipino pop-up restaurant is switching ZIP codes in metro Atlanta. Upper Room, which has been steadily building a loyal fan base since its opening last fall in a Buckhead Japanese restaurant, is moving to Taiyo Ramen in Decatur, Patch has learned.

Upper Room is the brain child of Andrew Bantug, who runs the concept with his girlfriend, Joyce Lau. Taiyo Ramen, located in the city's downtown area at 130 Clairmont Avenue, continues to be one of the best restaurants in the city for Japanese staples such as noodle soup and other contemporary dishes. The joint is also a favorite of parents: Kids eat free for lunch on the weekends.

The move makes sense for Bantug, who will serve as Taiyo's executive sous chef, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Taiyo Ramen is familiar environs to many in the city: The spot used to be the Courtyard Decatur Downtown Hotel, where Makan (remember that?) used to serve customers on the first floor.
