Weather Alert: High Wind Advisory Followed by Arctic Front this Weekend

After last weekend’s weather with temperatures in the 60s, Old Man Winter has a dose of reality coming your way.

After all, it is still winter.

Windy and cold conditions are expected throughout north Georgia for the rest of the week, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City said.

The weather service issued a Wind Advisory for all of central and north Georgia from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Northwest winds of 20 mph, gusting to 30, are expected. High temps will be in the 40s. Watch out for wind-blown debris, toppled limbs and trees, and windy conditions on the roadways.

A fire danger statement also has been issued due to the high winds and low humidities.

The wind will be followed by bitterly cold air overnight, with low temps in the 20s by Friday morning.

The cold pattern continues this weekend with the advance of a strong arctic front that will increase winds and lower wind chills:

A strong but dry arctic front will move across north and central Georgia Saturday. Much colder air will spread across the region Saturday night as northwest winds increase to 15 to 30 mph. High temperatures Sunday are expected to rise only into the upper 20s and 30s across north Georgia, and the mid 30s to lower 40s across central Georgia. Wind chill values will range from the single digits below zero across portions of north Georgia to the teens above zero across portions of central Georgia. — National Weather Service

In Decatur, the weather service forecasts an overnight low of 21 and winds of 10 to 15 mph. Friday’s high should be 41, with an overnight low of 28.

Saturday’s high is expected to be 52, but it’ll get a whole lot colder again from there, with a Sunday high of 35 and lows in the 20s Saturday and Sunday nights.
