Weekend Planner: Glass Blowing Studio Holding Open House

Other stuff happening this weekend: Storytellers, a play at the Academy Theatre, a book signing for a book about bookstores and a 5K run.

Grand opening for glass blowing studio. Nathan Nardi invites everybody to visit his studio, Decatur Hot Glass, from 5-10:30 p.m. Saturday for glass blowing demonstrations, music, beverages from 5 Seasons Brewery and a silent auction. The studio is at 250 Freeman St. in Decatur. Free.

'They Call Me Mr. Fry.' The Academy Theatre presents this play, the true story of a first-year, fifth-grade teacher in South Central Los Angeles. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 online.

Loving bookstores. Atlanta writer David Fulmer will sign copies of the book to which he contributed, "My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places To Browse, Read and Shop." In the book, 76 authors pay tribute to the brick-and-mortar stores they love and often call their second homes. 7 p.m. Saturday at Eagle Eye Book Shop at 2076 N. Decatur Road. Free.

Tell me a story. The Southern Order of Storytellers will feature Andy Offutt Irwin during its 23rd annual Tellabration! at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Friends School of Atlanta at 862 South Columbia Drive in Decatur. Atlanta residents and storytellers Betty Ann Wylie and Alice Henry will also be there. Tickets are $15.

5K (and 1 Mile) Run/Walk To Stamp Out Poverty. Proceeds from this event sponsored by The Charity Benevolent Fund will go toward providing basic necessities in the community, educating homeowners on preventing foreclosure, and promoting health and wellness. The run begins at noon at Agnes Scott College's Gellerstedt Field. $15.
