Atlanta's Fringe Festival at CORE Studios
When/where: Performances start at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 11 at at 519 N. McDonough St., Decatur. Performances will run through Sunday, May 13.

Why go: Sometimes you need the cutting edge. The festival website says, "The Atlanta Fringe Festival exists to bridge the gap between the fine and the performing arts by showcasing nontraditional works that push audiences to gain new perspective on diverse and multi-cultural artistic expression." Performances will be held at five other locations in Metro Atlanta this weekend.

Jazz Band at Decatur Baptist Church
When/where: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 11, on the lawn at Decatur Baptist Church, 308 Clairemont Ave., Decatur.
Why go: Free music from the Atlanta 17 Big Band. The show is open to all of Decatur. You can bring your own dinner and dine on the lawn with a blanket or lawn chairs. If you want to set up dinner on a table call 404-373-1653 by Wednesday.
Price: Free admission.
When/where: 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, at , 515 N. McDonough St., Decatur.
Why go: Micah Dalton is a rising talent. The ATL Collective co-founder and singer-songwriter is releasing his latest record, "Blue Frontier," an entirely fan-funded project that’s a call back to 70s classic soul music.
Price: Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or online at Ticket Alternative.
When/where: 8 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at , 310 N. McDonough St., Decatur.
Why go: Because you need to give something nice to the Moms you know and love. Twenty percent of all plant sales go to environmental education programs in and around Decatur.
Price: Free admission.
When/where: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at , 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur.
Why go: Been meaning to recycle some of that stuff cluttering your house? The church is accepting household items (including small appliances in working condition), clothing, shoes, toys, books, tennis balls, electronics, including all computer equipment. There's a $10 charge to recycle TVs. Documents will be shredded at a $5 charge per banker‘s box.
Price: Free admission.
When/where: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the First Christian Church of Decatur Community Park (toy park) at 601 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur.
Why go: The race is dedicated to the memory of Patrick Chance, who had neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. He died this year on his ninth birthday. All proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Price: $20 per child, $10 per adult for registration.
When/where: 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Decatur Square.
Why go: Because Decatur loves to be green! You'll see demonstrations on environmentally friendly projects, as well as organic food. Music throughout the day, with the Squirrelheads performing at 7 p.m. That show will serve as the Saturday night concert on the square.
Price: Free admission.
When/where: 5 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at CozeeTeas, 225 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Ste 130, Decatur.
Why go: Enjoy a high tea with music, poetry and door prizes. Call 404-373-2110 for reservations because seating is limited.
Price: $18.
