Weekend Planner: Cheers to the Wine Festival!

Do just sit around this weekend--Get Out and do something.

Here are some fun things to do this weekend. For a complete list of ideas, go to the Decatur/Avondale Estates Patch events calender.

Decatur Wine Festival. You can sample 350 wines and food from local restaurants. Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the Decatur Court Square. $35. On Friday night, local galleries will kick off the festival with openings and receptions.

Agnes Scott Harvest Fest. The entire community is invited to this kid-friendly event at the college. 3 p.m. Friday. Free.

Doggie Day. Bring your friends, family and dogs on a leash to see service dog demonstrations and dog training tips. There will be children's activities, too. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 755 Commerce Drive, in the parking lot behind DeKalb Medical.

Learn to be safe. The Decatur Heights neighborhood is holding a Safety and Home Security Event at the the Church at Decatur Heights at 735 Sycamore Drive, Decatur. 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Free.

PAWS in the Park Dog Walk and Fundraiser. Walk with or without your dog on the one-mile scenic route through Avondale Estates and support the no-kill animal shelter. 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Willis Park at 51 Dartmouth Ave., Avondale Estate. $25.

One Sweet Evening. This one-night coffee house benefits Decatur High School journalism. Musical entertainment will include White Chocolate, The Porch Bottom Boys and student musicians. Ticket includes desserts and beverages. 7 p.m. Saturday at North Decatur Presbyterian at 611 Medlock Road. $5.

Woodlands Garden workday. Tasks include planting 60 trees and shrubs, chopping firewood, cleaning up brush piles and putting wood chips on the trails.  9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Woodlands Garden is at 932 Scott Blvd. Free. If you're coming, RSVP to ruby@woodlandsgarden.org.
