What’s Open, Closed Christmas Week 2020 In Decatur

Check for Decatur services and offices that are already closed or are closing early this week for Christmas.

DECATUR, GA — Christmas may be different for some who may avoid larger gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19. What hasn't changed is the closure of many services in Decatur for the holiday.

While Christmas is a federal holiday, some services may start their closures on Christmas Eve. Here are the openings and closings to know on and around Thursday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve) and Friday, Dec. 25 (Christmas).

  • DeKalb County and city of Decatur courts, facilities and offices are closed on Friday.
  • Decatur garbage pick up
    • If you live in the city of Decatur, trash service will not take place on Dec. 25 or Dec. 28. From Dec. 24-25, trash service will take place the day before your usual day (i.e. If service would normally be on Dec. 24, it will now be on Dec. 23). From Dec. 28-29, trash service will occur the day after your usual day (i.e. If service would normally occur on Dec. 28, it will now be on Dec. 29). Decatur residents may drop off live Christmas trees for recycling at Decatur Legacy Park beginning Monday, Dec. 28 until Saturday, Jan. 9.
    • If you live outside of Decatur’s city limits, DeKalb County’s Sanitation Division will run trash service as normal through Christmas and New Year’s Day. Curbside Christmas tree recycling is set to take place from Dec. 28-Jan. 7.
  • The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority will operate bus service, rail service and Atlanta streetcar service on their respective Sunday schedules Dec. 24-25.
  • City Schools of Decatur students are off until Jan. 5, and all CSD offices are closed until Jan. 4.
  • DeKalb County Schools students are off until Jan. 4, and all offices are closed.
  • This is a federal holiday and all U.S. Postal Service post offices will be closed. No mail will be delivered or sent. Regular business hours will resume Saturday, Dec. 26.
  • Publix: All stores open at regular hours and close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores and pharmacies will be closed on Christmas Day.
  • Kroger: All stores and pharmacies will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day.
