- Cobb County is celebrating a significant milestone as it received a AAA rating for the 25th consecutive year. At the upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting, the Chief Financial Officer will be handing out awards after learning all three New York-based credit rating agencies gave Cobb County a AAA rating. The ratings, which come from the Fitch Group, Moody’s, and S&P Global Ratings — the “Big Three” agencies — mean "a lower cost of borrowing, easier market access, the strong reputation of the business community, and strong county management,” according to CFO Bill Volckmann. - Two Cobb Sheriff's deputies were killed in the line of duty on Thursday night while trying to serve a warrant at a residence on Hampton Glen Drive. According to Cobb Sheriff Craig Owens, two suspects who he said “ambushed” his deputies were taken into custody after an hours-long standoff at the West Cobb home. The deputies' identities have not been released pending notification of family, and the identities of the suspects also have not been revealed. (East Cobb News)
- Three young adults have been arrested on loiter prowling charges after Cobb Police said they were committing car break-ins. The suspects, Kissimmee, Florida residents all in their late 20s, were arrested on Aug. 29 at the Sope Creek parking lot of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area, the warrant states. Manuel Orellana, Diego Rivera, and Yanara Riveros have been charged with loiter prowling, a misdemeanor, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, a felony; they remain in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to Cobb Sheriff’s Office records.
