6th District Race: Early Voting Tops 30,000

More than 32,000 people have voted in the special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Tom Price, according to news report.

EAST COBB, GA -- In a sign of the race's importance, early voting in the pivotal April 18 election for Georgia's 6th congressional district has brought tens of thousands of people to the polls, Patch has learned.

More than 32,000 people have voted early in the special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Tom Price, who vacated the seat to serve as the nation's health secretary.

The race even has the attention of the Republican Party's upper echelon, evidenced by the fact that none other than President Trump Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is paying close attention as Patch previously reported.

The 6th District, which covers swaths of Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb counties, is normally a Republican stronghold but Donald Trump's 1 percentage point win against Hillary Clinton in November has given the Democrats hope that they can "flip the Sixth" and turn the tide against the GOP.

Eighteen candidates -- a collage of Democrats, Republicans and Independents -- are in the race.
