6th District Race: Handel Wishes Ossoff 'Congratulations' On Engagement
6th District Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff proposed to his longtime girlfriend over the weekend -- and his opponent says congrats.

EAST COBB, GA -- Showing that all is fair in love and politics, 6th District Republican candidate Karen Handel wished her opponent, Democrat Jon Ossoff well on his engagement. The first-time candidate proposed to his longtime girlfriend Alisha Kramer Friday night.
"Steve and I send our congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs. Ossoff," Handel said in a news release. "We have learned a lot over nearly 25 years of marriage. Most days are beyond awesome but there are some tough times too. Having a partner who is the love of your life ultimately makes the hard days better, and the journey more complete. Steve and I wish them the best in their future together."
Ossoff's love life became a political topic right after the April 19 special election when CNN asked the 30-year-old if he lived in the 6th District. Ossoff replied that he lived just outside the district to make for an easier commute for his girlfriend, who is in medical school at Emory University. The couple reportedly live in the Northlake area.

The June 20 runoff in the 6th District is being closely watched by Washington and much of the nation as many see it as a litmus test of President Donald Trump's ideals. With more than a month to go, the race is proving to be highly competitive and may shape up to be the most expensive House election in U.S. history.
Outside groups — GOP-backed and Democratic — have already spent millions in the race to replace the seat vacated by Roswell doctor Tom Price, who is now the nation's health secretary.
