6th District Race: In New Ad, Handel Rips Candidates' 'Gimmicks'

BREAKING: Sixth District Republican frontrunner Karen Handel releases first political ad for TV.

EAST COBB, GA -- Sixth District Republican frontrunner Karen Handel released another political ad Thursday -- her first for TV -- in her bid to replace Tom Price, who left his Congress seat to serve as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

As a former Secretary of State, Handel enjoys statewide name recognition, but it's the voters of Georgia's 6th Congressional District, which encompasses affluent areas of Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb counties, that she must ingratiate herself to if she hopes to win.

Handel released her first ad in mid-March, a digital spot which took aim at Democrat Jon Ossoff, calling him a "lightweight liberal."

In her new 30-second ad, Handel briefly targets more candidates, including some Republicans, before plainly stating her political record.

"Haven't we had enough of the politicians who talk a big game and never deliver? We've seen swamps, animals, shovels and scare tactics -- enough with the empty promises and gimmicks," she says as a TV set in the backdrop shows spots from fellow candidates, including, Bob Gray and Jon Ossoff.

In a message addressed to voters, Handel said, "This April, the people of Georgia have a choice between politicians who only talk a big game and a proven conservation leader with a winning track record. I’ve spent my life working hard for the people of Georgia, balancing budgets without raising taxes and taking on President Obama and his liberal agenda. Georgia’s 6th District needs a leader who isn’t afraid to take on the status quo and in Washington, I won't be just another talker, I'll deliver for you."

In the latest poll, first-time candidate Ossoff has a double-digit lead followed by Handel, who hopes to gain some distance between herself and third-place Bob Gray, a former Johns Creek City Councilman.

Eighteen candidates are competing in the District 6 special election, which will be held on April 18. If necessary, a runoff election will take place on June 20.
