Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:

  1. A new bill is bringing back the topic of Buckhead City to the legislature once again after a similar proposal failed in the legislature's last session. Senate Bill 114 was recently introduced and sponsored by nine legislatures. During a virtual town hall last week, Rep. Etsy Holland and Sen. Jason Esteves said that there doesn't seem to be as much support for the proposal this time around, and none of the bill's nine sponsors are from the metro Atlanta area. (The Georgia Sun)
  2. For couples in Cobb County who are looking to make Valentine's Day special by getting married and want a good discount deal, Cobb County Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan F. Murphey will be holding a Valentine's Day group wedding ceremony. The ceremony is free for interested couples and will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Cobb County Magistrate Court in Marietta. (NewsBreak)
  3. A bench in nearby Smyrna's Taylor-Brawner Park is missing a plaque dedicated to the memory of George Floyd, and another plaque dedicated to Breonna Taylor shows signs of tampering. The plaques, which also include one plaque that is dedicated to Ahmaud Arbery, were the ideas of a local family and were installed in 2020. The plaque has allegedly been missing since September 2022, but city officials said they weren't aware e of the missing plaque until this last Thursday; a new replacement plaque should arrive sometime next week.
