Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:

  1. Cobb Board of Education chairman David Chastain is holding a campaign fundraiser. Chastain, a Republican who is seeking a third term from Post 4, is up for re-election in November. The fundraiser will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Atlanta Country Club (500 Atlanta Country Club Drive). (East Cobb News)
  2. A 5-year-old Cobb County boy was left sleeping on the school bus for hours after he was picked up. The boy's mother, Sonequa Barnes, is demanding answers from school officials, stating "I trust them with my child, that’s their job, they’re hired to do that job so they should do it and do it properly." At this time, it's unclear what disciplinary action, if any, the driver faced for what district leadership said was a policy violation. (Fox5)
  3. Cobb Fire 21 crew members and a Cobb 911 operator were recipients of the Lifesaver Award. The first responders were recognized for their efforts in helping a parent resuscitate his son during a medical emergency on Jan. 2. Cobb 911 took a call from a father whose 13-year-old son had stopped breathing and didn’t have a pulse. Emergency Communications Officer Emily Mistrella helped the father conduct basic CPR as Company 21 was dispatched to the scene. The boy’s heart was restarted with defibrillation and other measures by Company 21 and MetroAmbulance. (East Cobb News)
