Chick-fil-A Dumps Cole Slaw, But Shares Recipe

Despite taking the popular side off the menu, Chick-fil-A is ensuring the slaw will live on in the hearts and bellies of its fans.

ATLANTA, GA -- Time is running out for Chick-fil-A’s cole slaw.

The extremely popular side item is being permanently removed from the menu as of Jan. 18. Chick-fil-A says it’s introducing new sides such as broccolini in response to customers who said they wanted more healthy choices on the menu, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Chick-fil-A has released their cole slaw recipe so that fans of the slaw can still enjoy it at home:

  • 4 teaspoons vinegar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon dry mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 bags (10 oz. bags) fine shredded cabbage, chopped to 1/8 inch
  • ¼ cup finely chopped carrots
  • Whisk vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt together until sugar is dissolved. Add mayonnaise and whisk to mix. Add cabbage and carrots. Mix to combine. Refrigerate for 2 hours and serve. (Makes 6-8 servings)

The company has penned a love letter to its side dish, appropriately called “An Ode to Cole Slaw.”

“Some of us will remember you as the perfect topping to our original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. Some of us will reflect on the picnics we’ve shared or the combo meals we’ve savored,” the ode’s author writes. “All in all it was a beautiful 49 years, Cole Slaw.
